New kerosene gel could make rocket fuel easier to store and control
Researchers at Concordia University have developed a kerosene-based gel, mixed with lecithin and a little calcium chloride, that could make rocket and satellite fuel easier to handle. At rest it behaves like a soft solid, limiting sloshing and leaks, but its viscosity drops about 100-fold under force so it can be injected. Samples stayed stable for over a year.
