Puerto Rico to restore reefs with 124,000 corals, urchins and crabs
Puerto Rico's Caribbean Reef Project, led by ISER Caribe, plans to restore five acres of reef at Fajardo, La Parguera and Rincón. Along with planting 124,000 coral fragments, it will release 9,600 sea urchins and 600 crabs, which feed on algae and stop it taking over the reef. The project also expands land-based nurseries and community training programmes.
