NMC scraps MSMER-2023, raising questions on medical college oversight

The National Medical Commission has de-notified the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023, under which medical colleges could be fined for violating educational and infrastructure norms. The move removes overlapping procedures, but critics say it weakens accountability, since enforcement now depends on Medical Assessment and Rating Board inspections being started, completed and acted upon in time.
