Ghanaian twins and US woman admit $9m romance scam

Ghanaian twins Jamal and Kamal Abubakari, 22, and 53-year-old Amanda Joy Opoku-Boachie from Hawaii pleaded guilty to joining an international network that defrauded people via dating sites and social media. Using fake identities, they targeted elderly victims in the US, Germany and Austria, who lost $9m between July 2024 and April 2026. They face up to 20 years in jail.
