Rare zebra-striped bee spotted in Somerset for first time
A rare sea aster mining bee, usually found along England's south and east coasts, has been spotted at Steart Marshes in Somerset by naturalist Nigel Phillips, who called it 'a huge surprise'. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust credited saltmarsh restoration, completed in 2014, for creating ideal habitat. The bee relies on the sea aster flower for food.
