'Maxxing' named Dictionary.com's word of the year for 2026

Dictionary.com has picked 'maxxing' as its 2026 word of the year, reflecting how the suffix has spread to almost every part of life, from sleepmaxxing and proteinmaxxing to tokenmaxxing with AI. Lexicographer Steve Johnson said the team studies search trends, social media and news, and maxxing stood out because it connects to so many areas of life.
