Australian stingless bee honey halts every bacterium tested

University of Sydney researchers tested honey and propolis from Tetragonula carbonaria, a native Australian stingless bee long used in Indigenous medicine, against 16 bacterial and fungal pathogens. The honey stopped the growth of every bacterium tested, including two hard-to-treat strains. Published in PLOS One, the findings suggest these 'sugarbag' bees could help in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
