Gut bacteria linked to how fast the body ages, study finds
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa researchers found that certain gut microbes are associated with slower biological ageing and others with faster ageing. Analysing stool and blood samples from 123 adults, the study in Scientific Reports found gut bacterial differences explained about 15% of the variation in biological ageing rates, even independent of chronological age, said senior author Alika Maunakea.
