Dual-language kindergarten teacher named Massachusetts Teacher of the Year

Desirée Garcia, a kindergarten teacher at German Gerena Community School in Springfield, has been named 2027 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Governor Maura Healey announced the award at a school assembly; Garcia was picked from 347 nominations. She teaches the English side of a Spanish-English dual-language programme and will be the state's candidate for National Teacher of the Year.
