Air pollution may age bone marrow faster in diabetics, mouse study finds

A mouse study by South Korea's Jeonbuk National University found that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) speeds up ageing of bone marrow stem cells, weakens their ability to regenerate and shifts the balance between bone and fat formation. Damage such as oxidative stress and DNA harm was greater in mice with Type 2 diabetes. The findings have not yet been confirmed in humans.
