4,000-year-old wall in Morocco reveals early organised societies in North Africa
Archaeologists at Oued Beht in north-west Morocco have uncovered a large, probably defensive wall built about 4,000 to 3,500 years ago, the earliest such construction known in North Africa outside the Nile Valley. Researchers think it reflects competition over land, resources and movement. The site earlier yielded Africa's largest known farming complex beyond the Nile, dating back over 5,000 years.
