Teacher who ran online classes for Afghan girls recounts Taliban torture

Basir Arian set up an online English programme for Afghan girls after the Taliban, back in power since August 2021, banned them from school. In May 2022, Taliban officials in Herat summoned him, accused him of working with infidels, then blindfolded him and broke his nose and jaw. The ordeal left him devastated and convinced he had to leave Afghanistan.
