Warm-climate refuges helped crocodiles survive the dinosaur extinction
A UCL-led study in Science Advances suggests crocodiles survived the mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs because they consistently followed warm climates. Analysing more than 7,000 fossils from over 400 species alongside climate models spanning 245 million years, researchers found tropical refuges remained habitable for crocodile relatives when conditions elsewhere turned hostile.
