Canada's student arrivals jump to 37,090 in August, overall intake still down

Canada saw 37,090 new international students arrive in August 2026, up from 5,800 in July and just 2,070 in March, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The spike did not reverse the broader decline: combined new student and worker arrivals in the first eight months of 2026 were 63% lower than in the same period of 2024.
