Women's group opposes equal rights for trans women in Supreme Court

An all-women NGO, Women's Declaration International India, urged the Supreme Court not to extend rights meant for biological women to trans women. Through senior advocate Amit Sibal, it argued that gender identity certificates cannot change biological sex. The court asked the Centre for a comprehensive affidavit on petitions challenging the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026.
