NMC scraps 2023 medical education standards rules

The National Medical Commission has withdrawn the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023, effective October 17, with no single regulation replacing it. NMC says the move removes overlapping procedures and duplication. Medical activists, however, argue it weakens regulatory oversight, leaves unclear how violations by colleges will be penalised, and could ultimately put patients at risk.
