Heat deaths rose 36% in decade since Paris Agreement, Lancet report finds
Average annual heat-related deaths worldwide rose nearly 36% after the Paris Agreement took effect, the 10th Lancet Countdown report says. Heat was linked to a record 710,000 deaths in 2023 alone. Compiled by 146 researchers across more than 30 countries, the report warns fossil fuels still supply over 80% of global energy and air pollution from them kills an estimated 2.8 million people yearly.
