Sony ends its last 4K Blu-ray player, raising doubts over physical media
Sony confirmed on October 22 that it is discontinuing the UBP-X700/K, its last standalone 4K Blu-ray player, in Japan. Combined with plans to end PlayStation 5 game disc production from January 2028, the move suggests Sony is exiting the disc business. The PS5 could become Sony's final device able to play 4K movie discs, worrying physical media fans.
