Lake District peatland restoration begins in Skiddaw Forest
Cumbria Wildlife Trust has begun restoring 435 hectares of damaged peatland in Skiddaw Forest, one of the Lake District's largest blanket bogs and a major carbon store. Funded by a £520,000 grant, the three-to-four-month project will also repair a 6km fence. Rewetting should slow floodwater and boost sundews, sphagnum mosses, dragonflies and birds such as snipe.
