Kangaroo Island honey gets a chemical fingerprint, reveals fire impact
University of Western Australia researchers analysed 120 honey samples from Kangaroo Island, the world's oldest bee sanctuary, harvested between 2014 and 2026. They identified 13 honey types, and the main ones met international standards. One pre-fire type vanished after the 2019–20 Black Summer fires, while a new narrow-leaf mallee honey with higher antibacterial activity appeared in 2026.
