Nearly 7 in 10 passenger vehicles sold in India are now utility vehicles
Utility vehicles, including compact crossovers, SUVs and MPVs, made up about 68% of India's passenger vehicle wholesales from April to September 2026, rising to about 69% in September. Total wholesales grew around 28% in the period, as utility vehicle volumes rose about 31% compared with roughly 23% for cars. Hatchbacks and sedans are now clearly a minority.
