Antarctic channel named after ex-BBC science reporter Jonathan Amos
A stretch of water between Rothschild Island and Alexander Island in western Antarctica has been named the Amos Channel after former BBC science correspondent Jonathan Amos. The channel formed when ice linking the islands broke apart. The UK Antarctic Place Names Committee honoured his 38-year role in bringing polar research to the public. Amos has never visited Antarctica.
