World Bank: 496 million Indians escaped poverty between 2011 and 2023
India lifted about 496 million people out of poverty between 2011 and 2023, the World Bank's latest India Poverty and Equity Brief says. The share living below $4.20 a day fell from 57.7% to 16.1%, while extreme poverty dropped from 27.1% to 2.6%. But inequality persists: the top 10% of workers earn a median income nearly 13 times the bottom 10%.
