Waymo picks Toyota bZ4X as robotaxi, Japan tests from 2027

Waymo will add a custom Toyota bZ4X electric SUV to its robotaxi fleet, with a test fleet starting in Japan in 2027 before expanding to the UK and other markets. Toyota will build the vehicles at its Takaoka plant in Aichi, integrating the Waymo Driver on the line. Riders get extra rear legroom, automatic doors and a power liftgate.
