AI data centre boom drives surge in fuel-cell demand
US hyperscalers racing to build AI data centres are turning to fuel cells as grid constraints delay reliable power. Rystad Energy projects fuel-cell investment for data centres will climb from $2.8 billion in 2025 to about $30 billion by 2030. Fuel cells generate electricity chemically from natural gas or hydrogen, while grid connections can take three to six years.
