Canada ends Rocky Mountain avalanche rescue dog programme

Parks Canada is ending its search-and-rescue dog programme in Banff National Park this month, cutting its sole dog handler post amid federal public service budget cuts, sparking outrage. Retired handler Scott Ward, 73, who served 17 years, recalled dogs finding lost children and a hypothermic hiker. Banff draws over four million visitors a year.
