Scientists finally make diamondiyne, a new form of carbon
Researchers in Sweden have synthesised diamondiyne, a three-dimensional carbon network first proposed more than three decades ago. It resembles diamond but has a far more open structure, likened to two climbing frames pushed through each other. The team, from Gothenburg, Stockholm and Chalmers universities, grew it at a water-chloroform boundary, reporting the work in Angewandte Chemie.
