Murasu becomes first Tamil name given to a tropical cyclone

Murasu, named after a traditional Tamil percussion instrument, is the first Tamil name for a tropical cyclone. Suggested by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, it comes from the second list of north Indian Ocean cyclone names prepared by a WMO panel. The severe cyclonic storm is moving across the Bay of Bengal towards India's coast.
