India will have its own smartphone brand by October 2028, says Vaishnaw

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India will have mobile phones designed and manufactured under Indian brands by October 23, 2028. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, he called phone design extremely complex, needing RF, antennas, compute and memory to work together. He said an Indian-designed motherboard was already used in a 5G phone delivered to a major US telecom operator.
