US appeals court rejects Trump DoJ bid to halt California ballot counting

A US federal appeals court ruled 2-1 against the Trump justice department's bid to stop California from counting ballots of 20,000 registered voters it claims are non-citizens. The Ninth Circuit denied the demand to segregate those ballots ahead of the November 3 midterms. Governor Gavin Newsom called the federal move an 'assault on democracy'.
