Celebrated artist Jogen Chowdhury dies at 87

Eminent artist Jogen Chowdhury died in Kolkata on Sunday morning, aged 87, after a 15-month battle with blood cancer, his gallerist Somak Mitra said. Chowdhury was known for merging traditional, often mythical iconography with a contemporary sensibility, and for his expressive lines across ink, watercolour, pastel and oil. In 2019 he opened Charubasona, a museum housing his works.
