Newly found amoeba sets heat record for complex life at 63°C

Scientists have identified Incendiamoeba cascadensis, a single-celled amoeba that reproduces at 63°C (145°F), the highest temperature recorded for eukaryotic life. Found in geothermal springs at Lassen Volcanic National Park in California, it crawls at 64°C before entering a hibernation-like state. Researchers had previously thought complex cells could not survive beyond about 62°C.
