Exercise physically reshapes the nerves controlling the heart, study finds
Moderate aerobic exercise changes the structure of nerve cells that regulate the heart, with surprisingly different effects on the left and right sides of the body, University of Bristol researchers found. The study, done in rats and published in Autonomic Neuroscience, could eventually help develop more precise treatments for irregular heartbeats, angina and stress-induced 'broken-heart' syndrome. Human studies are still needed.
