AI likely to automate tasks, not whole jobs: IIT Madras paper

A white paper by IIT Madras researchers says AI is more likely to automate specific tasks within jobs than wipe out entire professions in India. Its impact will depend on the nature of work, the cost of technology and how organisations restructure roles. The paper was presented at the Centre for Responsible AI's Industry Conclave on AI Governance 2026 on October 22.
