Immune cells can 'feel' tissue stiffness to become long-term protectors
McGill University scientists report in Nature Immunology that tissue-resident memory T cells, which stay in tissues after an infection to respond quickly if it returns, can sense how stiff their surroundings are. This physical cue influences whether they become long-lasting memory cells. Lead author Judith Mandl said the finding shows the physical environment actively shapes immune cell behaviour.
