Toxic fire salamanders found to glow green and cyan under UV light

Scientists have discovered that Europe's black-and-yellow fire salamanders fluoresce green and cyan under ultraviolet light, most strongly on their yellow undersides and along their sides. The glow comes mainly from skin glands and their toxic secretions, which stay fluorescent for over 24 hours after release. The species is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, threatened by habitat loss in damp forests and streams.
