Supreme Court seeks Centre's reply on pleas against Vande Mataram orders

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Centre on two petitions challenging government orders imposing the six-stanza Vande Mataram. A Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard pleas by B.D. Borkar and former IAS officer Balakrishnan Sathyabhama Mavoji, who called it a divisive religious song and argued the orders violate fundamental rights to religion.
