Historic Athens cafe Mouria shuts as Exarchia gentrifies
Mouria, a century-old coffeehouse in Athens' leftwing Exarchia district that has hosted writers, artists, politicians and radicals, will close on Sunday after failing to renew its lease. Proprietor Christos Vanas has opened it at 7am daily for 44 years, serving spirits to market stallholders from 5am on Saturdays. Regulars call it the area's 'last fortress'.
