Tiny magnetic vortices could power brain-like computers

Scientists have filmed tiny magnetic vortices called skyrmions melting out of an organised lattice for the first time, revealing new ways to manipulate them. The study, published in Nature Nanotechnology and led largely at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with NTNU input, could help build brain-like computers that are smaller and far more energy-efficient, and advance quantum technologies.
