UK departments told to find fresh 1% capital cuts to fund defence
UK Chancellor John Healey has told every government department to cut capital budgets by a further 1% to fill a £4.7bn gap in the Defence Investment Plan. Earlier 1% cuts covered £10.3bn of the plan's £15bn cost. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch called it "a plan to have a plan". Healey will set out how to reach 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 at next year's spending review.
