RTI data shows most IITs fall short of UGC norm on student counsellors

RTI replies show many IITs have far fewer mental health counsellors than the UGC's recommended one per 500 students. IIT Kharagpur has one counsellor for every 1,136 students and IIT Roorkee one for every 1,317. Only IIT Ropar reported meeting the norm. The data comes amid a rise in student suicides over the last five years.
