Detectorist's find leads to record Roman silver hoard in Germany
Amateur detectorist Oliver Riedl found 15 Roman silver coins in a field near Wesseling, south of Cologne, and alerted authorities when his detector kept signalling. Archaeologists lifted the soil block intact and recovered 934 silver denarii buried for nearly 2,000 years, weighing about 6.8 pounds. It is the largest hoard of coins from Emperor Hadrian's reign ever found in Germany.
