17 Theni jail inmates faked a seizure to escape, all caught within 42 hours

Seventeen remand prisoners escaped from Tamil Nadu's Theni district jail on the night of October 26 after inmates raised a false alarm that one of them was having an epileptic seizure. Investigators say the plot began as a way to cheer up a cellmate who had bail but no surety. All were caught within 42 hours, but the breakout has raised concerns over overcrowding, staff shortages and prison security.
