Report says DeepSeek, Moonshot distilled OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra

Chinese AI firms DeepSeek and Moonshot AI used OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra to help train their latest models, The Information reported. Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro and DeepSeek's V4.1-Flash 1017 allegedly benefited from distillation, a practice US labs say lets rivals copy capabilities cheaply. OpenAI earlier linked a distillation campaign to Moonshot-associated individuals. The companies did not immediately comment.
