Liverpool edged Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Anfield to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, where they will face Bournemouth. It was Chelsea's fifth shootout defeat to Liverpool. Joe Gomez scored the decisive spot-kick before Wesley Fofana blazed over. Morgan Rogers and Cody Gakpo had scored in normal time, while five kicks were missed in the shootout.
