India targets its own smartphone brand by October 2028

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has set October 23, 2028 as the target for India to launch a homegrown smartphone brand with Indian design, manufacturing and intellectual property. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, he said an Indian firm has already designed and delivered a 5G phone to a major US telecom operator. The phone's name, specifications and price are yet to be revealed.
