New York bars AI chatbots from harmful interactions with children

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has signed two bills to protect children from risks posed by AI chatbots and internet-connected baby monitors. The law bars chatbots from simulating romantic relationships with minors, encouraging emotional dependency or promoting self-harm. Baby monitor makers must also add safeguards against unauthorised access to audio and video feeds.
