Over a third of ex-prisoner deaths on probation in Wales drug-related

More than a third of deaths among former prisoners on probation in Wales in 2024-25 were drug related, a Cardiff University Wales Governance Centre report has found. The figure of 37% compares with just over a fifth across England and Wales. Author Dr Robert Jones urged both governments to tackle "systematic failures", while the UK government cited £3.4m for addiction support.
