Can a heart stent get blocked again? A cardiac surgeon explains
A heart stent can get blocked again, though modern stents have cut the risk, says Mumbai cardiac surgeon Dr Bipeenchandra Bhamre. Re-narrowing inside the stent, called restenosis, happens in about 5-10% of patients depending on stent type and risk factors. A blood clot inside the stent or fatty deposits elsewhere in the arteries can also cause new blockages.
