'Hell chicken': first known fruit-eating dinosaur discovered
Palaeontologists have identified Infernogallus jamesi, a turkey-sized feathered dinosaur from the Hell Creek Formation that appears to be the first known species specialised in eating fruit. CT scans of its skull showed chewing muscles arranged like those of fruit-eating parrots, letting it mash stone fruits. The find, published in Nature Communications, suggests dinosaurs may have helped spread flowering plants' seeds.
